Ph.D. Position Available at Tseng Lab 

The Tseng Lab is currently seeking Ph.D. graduate students interested in ant biology and urban pest management. Prospective students can either develop their own projects aligned with the lab's focus or participate in ongoing research. Areas of study include the evolution of reproductive systems in ants, colony and population genetics, gut microbiota analysis, nutritional ecology, and nestmate recognition. On the applied side, projects involve novel strategies in pest management, insecticide transfer in colonies, urban IPM, and baiting techniques for pest control.

Applicants with a background in bioinformatics are especially encouraged to apply, as our research increasingly incorporates bioinformatic methodologies.Please send your CV and relevant details to shupingt@ntu.edu.tw.

New paper on ant nutrient sharing accepted

We are excited to announce that our latest research on nutrient sharing in Dolichoderus thoracicus ants via trophic eggs has been accepted for publication in Myrmecological News. Our findings reveal that these ants uniquely utilize trophic eggs instead of the common stomodeal trophallaxis, providing new insights into the nutritional strategies of social insects.To learn more about our work, please click here.

New paper on resistance of German cockroach accepted

Our research paper exploring the function of the cytochrome P450 gene CYP6K1 in pyrethroid resistance in the German cockroaches was accepted. Through a series of experiments, we utilized gene knockdown via RNAi and presented evidence of the P450 CYP6K1 gene's involvement in pyrethroid resistance in German cockroaches for the first time. Open house event

We are thrilled to announce the success of our recent open house event at NTU campus. Our team shared valuable insights on our research project on invasive ants, including Dolichoderus thoracicus and Odontomachus troglodytes. We recently hosted postdoctoral researcher Dr. Shao-Hung Lee (Dennis) from the Department of Entomology at UC Riverside. Dennis provided an insightful presentation on his research into insecticide resistance in German cockroaches in California.

Dr. Leong visits Tseng Lab

Dr. Chi Man (Danny) Leong from the Environmental Science Programme at Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC) visited our lab in July. Danny delivered a thought-provoking presentation on temperature tolerance of ants.

Our recent field trip to collect the Odontomachus troglodytes ant species, which has recently invaded Southern Taiwan, was a great success. We look forward to studying this species further and sharing our findings with the academic community.

Dr. Scotty Yang's Myrmecology Class at NTU

June 28-30, 2023

Dr. Tseng and Dr. Chin-Cheng (Scotty) Yang from the Department of Entomology at Virginia Tech collaborated in co-teaching a Myrmecology class this summer, which was a notable success. Our students immensely benefited from Dr. Yang's extensive expertise and knowledge in the field of Myrmecology.
